Taft Summer School

Today was the last day of Taft Summer School. I would like to tell you what I felt during the summer school. When I first got on the plane and said goodbye to my family, I was worried and scared. As the plane left off my heart started thumping. I was going to stay at a place alone for 5 weeks. As I went through the customs I thought to myself “There is nothing I can do about it, don’t think back”. After I went through everything, I found my chaperone. I went with him and drove to school. I was very tired from the jet lag. We reached school and checked in. I went up to my room and tried to unpack. Instead of unpacking I went to sleep. I repeated the same process. We went on a orientation around campus. After that we went back to our dorms and slept. I couldn’t sleep very much. I missed my family a lot and wanted to go back. I had no one to depend on. When summer school started, I wanted it to be over as soon as possible. But as it progressed, and made new friends and got to know everything, I didn’t want it to end. All the classes were very fun. I went on many trips. On the last day everyone was crying. I went to bed thinking about all the things I did with my friends. I woke up the next morning and went to class. I woke up at 6 in the morning to say goodbye to a friend. After I said goodbye, I went up and ate breakfast. I went to my first class. After first period most people got on the bus. One of my close friends left on the bus. It was really hard to see them go. After the bus left, people started to get picked up. Three things that I learned during Taft is independence, academics and cultural difference. I had to manage my time, do my laundry, etc all by myself. There was nobody there to tell me what to do. I also learned academics in general. I took Algebra I, Literature and Composition I, Digital Video Production and SSAT Prep Verbal. In Algebra I learned about quadratic equations. In Lit and Comp we read many short stories at the end we read the outsiders. In Digital Video Production, I learned the basics of writing a script, video shooting and editing. In SSAT Prep I learned the strategies to synonyms, analogies and reading comprehensions. Even though that I am usually in a multi-cultural environment, after living together for 5 weeks with people. I saw the difference more. Taft was really fun, and now I know what it’s like to live in a boarding school. I really enjoyed living by myself. It was a good experience.
